TIPS FOR BUYING A USED ENGLISH SADDLE

bullet

Check the Tree

  • Check for wrinkles across the middle of the seat.

  • Bend and twist the saddle, checking for excessive flexibleness.

bullet

Check the panels for shape and wear.

bullet

Check the billets and webbing.

bullet

Check the stirrups bars - are they loose from the tree?

bullet

Check the general stitching around the panels and all over the saddle.

bullet

Check the general condition of the leather.  Is it cracked, brittle and/ or dry?

If you find something you think  may be suitable, it is always best to have Rice Saddlery, LLC to look over the saddle for you, and check the fit to determine the overall suitability.

"To have a horse in your life is a gift. In the matter of a few short

years, a horse can teach a girl courage, if she chooses to grab mane

and hang on for dear life. Even the smallest of ponies is mightier

than the tallest of girls. To conquer the fear of falling off,

having one's toes crushed, or being publicly humiliated at a horse

show is an admirable feat for any child.

For that, we can be grateful."
